RANGE RULES

1.    The Road Speed Limits

• Rifle Range Road to the private road sign is 50 kph.
• The speed limit on the private road and within the range is 25 kph.
• There is NO overtaking on the private road or within the range.

2.   Para Range Contacts / Range Attendance

• On weekdays CONTACT the Caretaker prior to Shooting.
• On Weekends, enquiries are to be made at the canteen and to any Range Officer located on the range you wish to use.
• All persons located on site must sign the range attendance register in the canteen upon arrival.
• Range membership cards must be worn at all times by Para members.
• Visitor cards are to be worn by visitors at all times.

3.   During the week the directions of the Caretaker WILL be obeyed without question. At other times the Designated Range Officer shall be in charge.

4.    Handing and Carrying Firearms

• When handling or carrying  a firearm it MUST BE SEEN TO BE SAFE. The muzzle must be pointed in a safe direction at all times.  The action MUST be open, the breech empty, ECI inserted and magazine removed (where applicable).
• A pistol  can be carried in a holster after being cleared by a Qualified Range Officer.
• Handling of firearms on the grassed area in front of the canteen is PROHIBITED, this area is reserved for social activities.
• All firearms must be bagged or cased when moving to or from a car park to the firing line area.
• ANY member may challenge the safety of a firearm.

Note: As of the 1st of January 2010, Empty Chamber  Indicators (ECI's) will be required to be used in each firearm located on the firing line. ECI's can be purchased from the canteen , or can be home made however the ECI flag must be safety yellow.

5.    Cease Fire

• At all times, when a cease fire is called, all persons will render any firearm safe, as per point 4 above.
• All users will then stand back from the firing line.
• Each firearm is then to be checked to be cleared.
• If applicable the red light is then to be turned on.
• Only then may the order be given to go forward.
• UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE FIREARMS TO BE HANDLED WHILE PEOPLE ARE FORWARD OF THE FIRING LINE.
• Firearms may only be handled again after the last person from out front has returned, the red light is turned off and the range is declared open again.

6.    Setting up Targets

• Do not climb the backstops, use the track when going forward to place targets.
• Target frames are to be placed close against backstops
• The use of metallic targets or shotgun traps for practice shall only be used by qualified members of the appropriate sections.
• Targets are not to be placed past 200m when a shotgun match is in progress. Check with canteen Staff.
• Clay targets are not to be placed on the back stops and used for target practice on the rifle and pistol ranges

7.   Full Metal Jacket projectiles

• The use of Full Metal Jacket, solid brass or solid copper projectiles is not permitted on Para Range.

8.   Damaging Range equipment or facilities

• Any person found damaging range equipment or facilities, including the deliberate destruction of targets and or target frames will be asked to pay compensation for any such damage.  If deemed appropriate the council may banned the user from the Range for a period of time.

9. All fauna and flora at Para is protected.

10.    Smoking on the Range

• Smoking is banned within 5 meters of all covered and non-covered firing lines and the canteen.

11.    Personal Safety Protection

• It is highly recommended that ear and eye protection is to be worn at all times when on the range facility.
• It is mandatory for all people located in the firing line area to wear ear and eye protection during  a handgun silhouette match shot under IHMSA rules.  Please check the program for when these events are on.
• Ear and eye protection can be purchased from the canteen.

12.   Dress Standards on the Range

• In the interest of range safety and good public relations, the wearing of camouflage clothing, sandals or thongs are not permitted on the firing line.
• Persons in breach of this regulation will not be permitted to use ANY of the Range facilities, and will be asked to either remove the item (where practical) or vacate the Range.
• Plain army greens are permissible.

13.  Stuck live rounds / Jammed Firearm

• No attempt is to be made to remove a stuck live round on any S.S.A.A. range. The firearm is to be made safe and removed from the line and the range. It should be taken to a competent person for the removal of the round. As per S.S.A.A. policy.

14.  Evacuation / Emergency assembling point

• In the event of an emergency sound a car horn with three long bursts to alert attention.
• Users of the facility are then to make their way to the car park area outside the  turning target pistol range area and wait for instructions. Refer to the plans located on each range.
• During the evacuation to the assembly point, do not leave the range until the situation has been assessed as the access road may be blocked; for example a bush fire.
• If required a first aid kit is located in the canteen area.

These are the by-laws of the Association and as such may be added to or altered at any time by the

Council.
